Abstract

The liquefied compressed gases commonly shipped to users in bulk by rail or highway are anhydrous ammonia, liquefied petroleum gas (LP-gas), 1,3-butadiene, chlo,ine, methyl ch|o’ hdc, methyl mercaptan, sulfur dioxide, vinyl chloride, and (broadly speaking) liquefied fluorinated hydrocarbons. Carbon dioxide, hydrogen chioridu, nitrous oxidc, and vinyl fluoride are shipped as liquefied compressed gases at low temperatures. However, due to special considerations these low-temperature guocx, except carbon dioxide, are not covered in this chapter. Similarly, this chapter does not address bulk shipments of cryogenic liquids such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and helium.
