Abstract
The oxidation of organic substrates catalyzed by Mn(lll)-porphyrins with a large variety of oxygen donors has been extensively studied, mainly in biphasic systems. The complexity of such systems is, presumably, the reason why a widely accepted detailed mechanistic description of the oxidation processes is not yet available. Therefore, we decided to investigate a model system as simple as possible, i.e. the epoxidation of olefins by Ph4PHSO5, a peroxide soluble in organic solvents, which can be obtained with a high degree of purity, in the presence of a series of Mn(III)-porphyrins in the solvent dichloroethane.
