Abstract
Chapter 11 discussed five aspects of digital switching architecture: terminal interfaces, switching network considerations, service circuits, control architectures, and maintenance diagnostics and administration. In this chapter, four operational switching systems have been selected to illustrate how the foregoing functions have been integrated into working systems. All are in service in the North American network. Each of these four systems is discussed in more detail than in the first edition of this book, and the reader will detect the system upgrading that has been accomplished in the interim. The data presented was extracted from information supplied by the manufacturers in various depths of detail.
