Abstract
This chapter introduces a comprehensive ontology learning framework for the Semantic Web1. The framework is based on the foundations and definitions of the ontology and knowledge base structure and the layered ontology engineering paradigm introduced in the last two chapters. Thus, it provides components, interaction between components and an overall process for applying ontology learning to real-world data for the extraction and maintenance of ontologies. The framework described here is considered to be the backbone of the entire book.
