Abstract

The adiabatic temperature change upon magnetization, ΔTs, and the field dependent heat capacity of Nd have been measured between 5 K and 40 K in applied magnetic fils up to 7 T in order to assess its potential for use as a magnetic refrigerant in an active magnetic regenerator (AMR). The ΔTs of Nd is proportional to temperature between 4 K and 10 K, with a maximal value of 2.5 K at 7 T and 10 K. Nd thus shows some applicability to AMR use.
