Part of the book series: Advances in Soil Science ((SOIL,volume 13))

Abstract

“Conservation tillage is not a panacea, but it is one of the best ways yet found to meet our national priorities of soil and water conservation” (Meyers, 1983). These words by the former chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Soil Conservation Service corroborate the attitude of many persons regarding the potentials of this practice for conserving soil and water resources, not only in the United States, but also in many other countries throughout the world.

Contribution from USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Conservation and Production Research Laboratory, P.O. Drawer 10, Bushland, TX 79012.
