Abstract
Before one can begin to understand the function and etiology of lateral preference, the prevalence of such behaviors in the general population must be determined. What is the distribution of dextrality and sinistrality for hand, foot, eye, and ear, and what are the relationships among the various manifestations of lateral preference within individuals? Do individual difference variables alter the distribution of these preference behaviors? This chapter will provide a normative description of lateral preferences in an attempt to answer these questions.
