Status of the Experimental Situation in Critical Binary Fluids

  • Chapter
Phase Transitions Cargèse 1980

Abstract

To try to summarize the status of the experimental situation in binary mixtures close to their dissolution point is a rather difficult task. A large number of experiments has been performed in the field since more than one century, and especially in the last 15 years. It has therefore been necessary to omit a number of interesting experiments. The justification of our choice has been chiefly the quality of the experimentation, and the consistency of the results in different laboratories. Ten binary mixtures have been selected, which allowed critical exponents, amplitudes and non-analytical corrections to be determined. We have contributed to the experimental study of 6 of them in our laboratory.
