Abstract
The purification of alkaline phosphatase has been the subject of numerous papers since the first report by Martland and Robison1 in 1929. Most investigators who have obtained alkaline phosphatase preparations with high specific activities have employed a series of well-defined steps. These include the extraction of the enzyme from the relevant tissue, concentration by precipitation, gel filtration, and/or column chromatography, with several variations in the sequence. It may ultimately become possible to purify a particular enzyme in one or two easy steps.2
