Abstract
Poly (vinyl chloride) is a low cost commodity polymer that is used in a wide variety of applications, such as pipe, tube, conduit, fittings and a host of others. PVC siding and profiles represent two of the more recent applications generating significant commercial interest. In order to successfully compete with aluminum siding, the PVC products must carry a similar long term performance warranty for periods up to 40 years. Special formulation considerations are required to meet these long term performance criteria. The key concern is polymer stability during long term weathering, with special emphasis on impact retention and color change.
