Abstract
This paper deals with the detection of linear segments in images using an efficient morphological technique. Linear features in images are easily recognized by the human visual system, but are notoriously difficult to segment. This difficulty arises from the fact that linear segments cannot be detected solely at the pixel level. Some kind of higher order information is also needed. The proposed method combines local with non-local information by starting the search for linear segments at local extrema of the images, and by linking these points by a propagation and reconnection technique.
