Endocrine Tumors of the Pancreas

  • Chapter
Radiology of the Pancreas

Abstract

The islet cells of the pancreas were first described in 1869 by Langerhans; however, he did not associate the cells with any particular function. Over 100 years later, these tiny islands of cells now are recognized as the source of a variety of important hormones, including insulin and glucagon, as well as being responsible for a variety of endocrine neoplasms and syndromes.
