Abstract
Our purpose in this chapter is to bring together salient parts of the technology described in Chapters 1 and 2, with the aim of explaining properties of bootstrap methods for estimating distributions and constructing confidence intervals. We shall emphasize the role played by pivotal methods, introduced in Section 1.3 (Example 1.2).
