Abstract

Telemedicine in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is a broad concept with extensive possibilities. Telemedicine is neither an isolated program, nor a list of projects that will ameliorate this condition or that. In concept and technology, telemedicine actually promises a new time-independent geography in which to operate a large, integrated healthcare organization. It is a fundamental development that must be wisely woven into the fabric of the entire enterprise.
