Abstract
In this chapter, we study a queuing system which has a different arrival process compared with the queuing systems studied in Chapters 1 and 2. The arrival process is a Markov-Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). An MMPP is a generalization of the Poisson process and is widely used as the input model of communication systems such as data traffic systems [72], Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks [116].
