Abstract
The idea of capturing the non-linear nature of the plant using key parameters has already been introduced. Having formed a set of linear controllers designed on linearisations of the plant for a set of values of these key parameters which cover the operating envelope, some way of moving between the controllers as the operating envelope is traversed is required. One possible approach is to assign subsets of the operating envelope to each linear controller, and then to switch between them as the boundaries between the regions are traversed. The GVAM design example presented here uses only one key parameter, namely airspeed. Each of the linear controller designs is therefore assigned to a particular airspeed range.
