Abstract
Figure 11.1 shows the discrete implementation used for piloted simulation. The sampling period was taken to be 20 milliseconds which corresponds to the clock rate of the processors on the DRA XW175 research Harrier. Discretisation was carried out assuming a zero order hold using the Matlab “c2d” command. This method has to be used for the H ∞ controller as the physical interpretation of the states must remain the same so that the state feedback gains can be lineariy interpolated. Tustin based methods do not preserve this structure. Using a zero order hold effectively introduces an extra half period delay into the loop, but simulation showed this to have negligible effect on performance.
