Abstract

The study of childhood depression has become increasingly popular in recent years, with particular focus on correlates of assessment and diagnostic criteria and on the relationship between depression in parents and their children (Kaslow et al., 1988). Studies have attempted to uncover the link between children’s depression and a history of disturbances among parents. Biederman et al. (200I) recently found that parental major depression was associated with increased risks for social phobia, major depression, disruptive behavior, and poor social functioning.
