Abstract
It seems like everything in the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) is a limited, simplified version of what you can do in the Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) or Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), and communicating over a network is no exception. As you may guess, the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) has no Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI). (And don’t even think about running an Enterprise JavaBean on a cell phone!) So instead of writing a completely object-oriented program in which the client can transparently call object methods on the server, as a J2ME programmer you have to write the client-server messages by hand.
