Abstract
The process of national reconciliation mapped out by RENAMO and FRELIMO in the GPA contained a number of steps similar to those found in Angola’s Bicesse agreement: a ceasefire followed by a process of demobilising and disarming the two rival armies, the ensuing creation of a new single defence force, and the holding of multi-party elections under international UN supervision.
