Abstract

In this chapter we present in detail the proposals for an internal energy market, with special emphasis on deregulation within the larger European context. The current degree of deregulation varies widely between countries, and although many public sector companies are resisting such a move, the idea of an IEM would hardly have been feasible without major support for general deregulation on the part of the EU member governments.
