Abstract
In the Grundrisse Marx developed a systematic critique of political economy on a rigorous and coherent theoretical basis, which thereafter shaped and was shaped by Marx’s political activities. Starting from the problem of crisis Marx dug down to the foundations of the capitalist mode of production, creating the basis on which to build up his own analysis of the contradictory dynamics of capitalism. Although Marx continued to address the problem of crises, from the late 1850s crises played a much less important role in his theoretical work and in his political prognoses.1
