Abstract
Inevitably the scientific and political aspects of the Marxist programme were intimately connected: the scientific priorities were dictated by the political priorities of the moment. The pressing theoretical issues which confronted Marxism at any stage in its historical development were those which were politically decisive. This relationship between political priorities and scientific tasks has been particularly marked in the development of the Marxist theory of crisis.
