Abstract
As will be appreciated from earlier chapters, UK financial institutions and markets have undergone a number of structural changes in recent years, and this chapter attempts to bring together some of the major trends that have occurred and are still occurring. The effects of mergers amongst financial institutions on the level of competition are analysed, as are the effects of deregulation and liberalisation on the degree of competition.
