Abstract
This chapter deals with current policies in the urban renewal field and their implementation. It is structured around the three possible forms of state intervention: (i) the making and enforcing of laws and regulations; (ii) government spending and taxation policies; and (iii) organisational changes including the establishment of new agencies to deal with particular problems or policy approaches. In each section various policy instruments are described and critically discussed. Where appropriate case studies and examples are presented in order to illustrate and clarify the issues being discussed.
