Abstract
This section of the book is a compilation of working instructions and tabular information. Section 4.1 begins with the selection of electrodes, and their manipulations, and the supervision of the arc during burning. Exposures of up to 8 minutes need care to maintain the arc length and position uniform throughout the exposure period. The difference between the K-method and the Q-method is fully explained here, as is sample preparation and the choice of graphite for electrodes for special materials. It is necessary to read Section 4.1 which explains the text before attempting to use the cards, of which there are enough to provide convenient lists of lines for each of the 63 elements to which the K- or Q-factor method has been applied (Section 4.2).
