Abstract
“ The Spirit Medium” (1938) is a strange, powerful, though little known poem that superbly illustrates Yeats’ s skill in adapting and re-working features of the traditional ballad in order to dramatize his own lifelong search for esoteric, “ occult” wisdom [VP, 599–600].
