Abstract
The Second World War made international contacts all but impossible. Brouwer’s mathematical work was once more interrupted. The correspondence of this period is scant. It deals mostly with university and clerical matters. After the war the correspondence initially concerned the so-called purification of the universities and organizational matters of the faculty. There was also a painful replay of the Mathematische Annalen affair. This time the publisher and younger colleagues succeeded in reorganizing the board of the Compositio Mathematica without its founder.
