Abstract

Children deemed to be medically or emotionally handicapped have been the focus of much of the research in the past 25 years, guiding the development of educational laws, child advocacy, and the implementation of prevention programs at the Federal and State levels (Albee, 1982; Canino & Spurlock, 1994; Luthar, Cicchetti, & Becker, 2000; Masten, 2001; Rutter, 1979).
