Abstract
The impact of major psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents should not be underestimated. Several similarities exist between major depressive disorders in children, adolescents and adults. However, the treatment options for paediatric affective disorders are limited because of a lack of clinical trial data in this population. The occurrence and treatment of these conditions were discussed at the 6th World Congress of Psychiatric Biology [ Nice, France; June 1997 ].
