Abstract
Unravelling the family of neurotransmitters involved in schizophrenia and locating their receptors is allowing researchers to develop new drugs that are likely to have a major impact on the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychiatric diseases. At the Third International Conference on Schizophrenia entitled ‘Schizophrenia 1994: Exploring the Spectrum of Psychosis’ [Vancouver, Canada; August 1994] several key speakers outlined possible new approaches to the treatment of this condition.
