Optical coherence tomographic identification of retinal fold resolution in chronic hypotonous maculopathy after internal limiting membrane removal

Abstract

Optical coherence tomography illustrated persistent macular folds of the sensory retina without corresponding choroidal folds or epiretinal membrane, secondary to chronic intraocular hypotony after trabeculectomy despite resolution of hypotony. Removal of the internal limiting membrane at the time of vitrectomy appeared to restore normal retinal contour and improve visual acuity. The authors suggest that internal limiting membrane reorganization was responsible for the macular folds.
