Abstract
Dense, nonresolving vitreous hemorrhage after birth is rare. After vacuum-assisted delivery, dense bilateral vitreous hemorrhage developed in an infant, leading to amblyopia by 5 months of age. Pars plana vitrectomy was necessary to clear the ocular media. One year postoperatively, he had improved vision but mild searching nystagmus remained. Direct ophthalmoscopic examination of high-risk neonates is essential for early detection and management of vitreous hemorrhage and avoidance of later complications.
