Abstract
Surfactant-templated binuclear alkoxysilane precursors or cyclic silsesquioxane precursors have led to a new class of nanocomposites with bridging organic groups (R) inside the channel walls, known as periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO). These PMO materials facilitate chemistry of the channels and provide new opportunities for controlling the chemical, physical, mechanical, and dielectric properties of the materials. This review provides an overview of recent papers on the synthesis of PMOs and their applications as catalysts published after the year 2000.

Chang-Sik Ha is a professor at the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Pusan National University (PNU), Korea since 1982. He received his ph.D. in Polymer Physics from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Seoul, Korea in 1987. He is also a director of the Pioneer Research Center for Nanogrid Materials, the Honorary Professor of University of Queensland, Australia, and Associate Editor of both the Advanced Porous Materials and the Composite Interfaces. His research interests include periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs), organic/inorganic nanohybrid materials, and functional polymers for various applications. His current research involves PMOs for drug delivery systems and metal adsorptions as well as polymers for flexible display.
