Asian Thermal Spray Conference 2006 (ATSC 2006)

November 6-8, 2006, Gyungju, Korea

The ATSC 2006 conference was held in Gyungju Hilton, Gyungju, Korea, from Nov 6 to 8, 2006. This was a second meeting in this series, following the First ATSC, which was held in Nagoya, Japan. This conference was organized by ATSC 2006 Korean Committee, Korea Thermal Spray Society, Thermal Spray National Research Lab of RIST, Kinetic Spray National Research Lab of Hanyang University, Center for Nanostructured Materials, and Division of Materials, KIST. The chairman of ATSC 2006 was Dr. S.Y. Hwang of Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST). Together, 203 participants came from China (66), Japan (47), Korea (85), Singapore (2), and United States (3).

Ten sessions of oral presentations and one poster session were scheduled during this three-day conference. Overall, 59 authors presented 37 oral presentations and 22 posters, which covered all aspects of thermal spraying. Also, there was a plenary presentation by Dr. K. Tani for “Current Situation of Thermal Spray Technology/Industry in Japan.” In addition, there were four presentations about current status of thermal spray in China, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.

ATSC Exhibition and Industrial Tour

Industry participation was strong in the ATSC exhibition, during which 11 companies from the field presented new products, services, and technology. On Nov 7, there was an industrial tour including Pohang Iron and Steel Company and POSCO Museum, Daeshin Metallizing Company, and Tae-Kwang Technology Company. Fifty-nine Chinese visitors came from China to attend the ATSC exhibition and Industrial Tour.

ATSC Award

Dr. B.G. Seong and Dr. P. Chivavibul, and Prof. M. Fukumoto were awarded for the best oral presentation authors, and Dr. K.H. Baik and Dr. H. Tahara were awarded as the best poster paper authors. In addition, Young Scientist Awards were given to Dr. H.Y. Seok and Dr. Y. Ando.
