Abstract
When a photonic crystal with defect is illuminated with a light pulse, a standing wave of light can be excited when the frequency of the defect mode is within the pulse spectrum and the temporal width of the light pulse is properly chosen. The results presented in this paper provide a new way to store light in photonic crystals.
