Abstract.
A novel method to produce a slow, monochromatic, and bright pulsed atomic beam from a magneto-optical trap by switching the magnetic field of the trap is proposed. A pulsed lithium atomic beam with a brightness of 1.1×1015 /sr s and a velocity of 13 m/s was produced as an experimental proof of this technique. The conversion efficiency from the trap into the atomic pulse was nearly 100%.
