Abstract
The effect of temperature on the luminescence intensity of the two bands due to 5 D 1→7 F 1 and 5 D 0→7 F 1 transitions in Eu3+ on excitation with the 476.5 nm line from an Ar+ laser has been studied in tellurite and calibo glasses. It is interesting to note that the peak intensity of the 5 D 1→7 F 1 transition increases with increasing temperature where as that of the 5 D 0→7 F 1 transition decreases. The ratio of the intensities of the two bands have been used to estimate the temperature.
