Abstract
The effect of stimulated Brillouin scattering in remote sensing of the ocean is investigated. It shows that by means of stimulated Brillouin scattering the signal-to-noise ratio of Brillouin lidar can be increased greatly by about 50 times, and its depth resolution can be improved to 1/8 of that with spontaneous Brillouin scattering.
