Abstract
Summary
In this paper Kohut's self–psychology is introduced as a conceptual frame for understanding the psychological problems of children of holocaust survivors. The experiences of holocaust victims may damage their ‘self’, impairing their ability to adequately fulfill the narcissistic needs of their children. The development of the ‘self’ of the children may consequently be disturbed, leading to self–pathology. Kohut's self–psychology can enhance our understanding of children of holocaust survivors, and provide us with some useful guidelines for treatment.
