1.
Two commercial samples of trisilicate of Magnesium were analyzed for antacid action. They varied greatly in acid neutralizing ability. The findings in sample B verified the experiments of Mutch.
-
2.
It was found for sample B that, after 20 minutes, 10% of acid present was adsorbed and 45% was neutralized. If percentage was figured from equivalent acid (Mann), the figure for acid adsorbed would be 17.5% and for ac:’d neutralized 61%.
-
3.
Trisilicate of Magnesium was used for 150 patients with peptic ulcer. In a series of 90 cases studied carefully 86 cases could anticipate benefit from medical management. Of these 92% were markedly benefited and 84% kept symptom free for the duration of the study.
-
4.
Trisilieate of Magnesium has no effect on colonic motility in most cases. It produced no discernible toxic effects. It does not affect the acid-base balance of the blood serum.
-
5.
Trisilicate of Magnesium has a use in the treatment of peptic ulcer and will probably replace many antacids now employed.
