Summary
Conventional endoscopy is useful in the detection, surveillance and treatment of dysplastic lesions in esophagus and colon. Fluoroendoscopy and tissue spectroscopy can be used in the next future to detect earlier transitions from normal mucosa. Several thermal ablation techniques and photodynamic therapy permit endoscopic minimally invasive destruction of these malignant lesions.
