Abstract
The possibility of using gas-dynamic lasers (GDLs) operating in the near-IR region of the spectrum for photoneutralization of negative-ion beams is discussed. A criterion for estimating the efficiency of neutralization is suggested; this criterion makes it possible to match an optically active medium to the negative ions. In order to demonstrate the potential of this method, media containing hydrogen-halide molecules as the emitting centers are analyzed.
