Summary
The existence and distribution of atrophic radial peripapillary capillaries in33 autopsy eyes of patients with chronic glaucoma or different optic nerve atrophies are compared with their visual field defects and stage of atrophy or excavation of the disc. No correlation of defective RPC and visual field defects was found. The selective atrophy of RPC is therefore supposed to be secondary to different atrophies of the disc.
