Summary
In the course of life of a working-bee the volume of the corpora allata increases temendously. The production of warmth depends on the hormones which are stimulating the assimilation. The production of warmth is in positive correlation to the size of the glands. The temperature of preference and the stay of the worker within the hive during the different periods of life are influenced by the intensity of assimilation and the production of warmth combined with it. The temperature of nestbreeding and the production of warmth by the swarming bees leads to superoptimal temperatures of the body.
The chrysalis of worker and queen-bee shows a different size of corpora allata-volume, as well as a different intensity of assimilation, and a different grade of warmth-production. The arrangement of the covered combs and the cells for the queen-bee makes a greatly differing delivery of temperature possible. Equal events at the breeding of queen-bees created in the manner of others are analyzed. The instincts of brood-care at the arrangement and building of swarming-cells and queen-cells created in the manner of others as well as the different acceptance of plugs for the queen-cells in the breeding-frameshow, that the condition of temperature in the cell of the queen-bee must be regarded. The inferior value of later breeded queen-bees, which is so often reported, will be discussed under this aspect.
