Abstract
The thermal decomposition of bis(η-cyclopentadienyl dicarbonyl iron) in an inert atmosphere at 165° leads to the intermediate cluster (η-C5H5)4 Fe4(CO)4 which is decomposed above 210° into ferrocene. The cluster (η-C5H5)4 Fe4(CO)4 has been identified by its infrared spectra and its X-ray diffraction pattern compared with the already published data.
