Abstract
The operation of a master laser with solar excitation, using the mixture Br2-CO2-He and emitting at the wavelength λ = 10.6 um of the C02 molecules, is theoretically analyzed. The dependences of the relative values of the gain, lasing power, and efficiency for direct conversion of sunlight into laser energy are calculated. It is shown that at a 50-fold solar-energy flux concentration and for a round trip of this flux through a cell with cross section 10 x 1 cm, the attainable gain, lasing power, and efficiency are, respectively, 8.10-5 cm-1, ∿1 W/m, and ≈ 1%.
