Abstract
A consistent exposition is presented of the theory of the dynamic response of an atom in the Thomas—Fermi model. The approach proposed is based on a system of Vlasov equations with a self-consistent field. These equations, supplemented by appropriate boundary conditions, describe the dynamic polarizability and photoabsorption of complex many-electron atoms.
