Abstract
It is the intention of this paper to report on the currently used methods to solve the different LIDAR signal inversion problems for molecular atmospheres, aerosols and clouds. Apart from more traditional approaches, we shall present a recent one using multiple scattering effects rather than avoiding them, which is useful especially for dense clouds.
