Abstract
A concentric heat-pipe oven of improved design is presented which provides a metal-vapor inert-gas mixture of large column density and simultaneously with a stable, well-defined optical path length. It is applied to the efficient sum-frequency mixing in a metal-vapor inert-gas mixture containing magnesium and krypton. The corresponding phase-matching curves, the intensity profiles around the two-photon resonance and the conversion efficiencies are presented.
